In Batman, a mother and daughter, along with 27 suspects acting with them, were caught in a simultaneous operation across 7 provinces for allegedly defrauding 300 million Turkish Lira by claiming to distribute healing through magical powers. It was determined that the mother and daughter promised a victim, whom they had called from Germany to Batman, that they would be freed from evil by wearing a T-shirt with handwritten notes on it for 4 days.
The teams of the Anti-Smuggling and Organized Crime Department of the Provincial Police Department in Batman have determined that a mother and daughter were committing fraud by claiming to distribute healing to those suffering from mental distress and health problems through spells they performed with their divine powers. They also claimed to solve personal issues, to know everything through angels and jinn, and to provide information about future lives.
FRAUD OF 300 MILLION LIRA
It was determined that the suspects demanded money from the complainants under the name of "necessary expenses" to perform spells and acted in conjunction with intermediaries. According to statements and MASAK reports, it was found that the suspects gained approximately 300 million TL in unjust profits.
FORCED A GERMAN VICTIM TO WEAR THE SAME T-SHIRT FOR 4 DAYS
It was also determined that the mother and daughter used information obtained from the surroundings through intermediaries to gain the trust of the victims, invited one of the victims from Germany to Batman, hosted them in their home, and promised that by making them wear "a t-shirt written in handwriting for 4 days, they would be saved from evils."
29 SUSPECTS ARRESTED
The teams conducted simultaneous operations in Batman, Istanbul, Bursa, Izmir, Konya, Mardin, and Adıyaman for 29 suspects, including the mother and daughter, for the crime of "qualified fraud by exploiting religious beliefs and feelings." In the operation, 29 suspects were taken into custody. During the searches at the addresses, notes, notebooks, and books believed to be used for performing spells were seized.
After their procedures at the police station, 15 suspects, including the mother and daughter, were sent to court, where they were arrested and sent to prison. 11 suspects were released by the prosecutor, while 3 suspects were released under judicial control.
