New footage has emerged regarding the murder of 15-year-old Mattia Ahmet Minguzzi in Kadıköy. The moments when the suspects argued with Minguzzi just minutes before the attack, as well as the moment of the murder, were captured on security cameras. Lawyer Rezan Epözdemir stated that a dispute occurred in the park just minutes before the murder, and that Minguzzi was killed later in the marketplace.

New footage has emerged regarding the murder of Italian chef Andrea Minguzzi, who was attacked with a knife at a flea market in Kadıköy while shopping, and his 15-year-old son, Mattia Ahmet Minguzzi, who was killed. During the second hearing of the case held today, moments were captured on security cameras showing the underage suspects fighting with Minguzzi and his friends before the attack.

NEW FOOTAGE IN MINGUZZI MURDER CASE

The footage shows Minguzzi, who was browsing the stalls at the market with his friends, encountering suspect B. B. and engaging in a brief verbal argument before starting to fight. The footage also shows bystanders intervening to separate the fight and the parties going in different directions.

STATEMENT FROM THE MINGUZZI FAMILY'S LAWYER

Meanwhile, the second hearing of the Mattia Ahmet Minguzzi murder case was held today. Rezan Epözdemir, the lawyer for Minguzzi's family, made a statement regarding the case in front of the Kartal Anadolu Courthouse after the hearing. Epözdemir, who mentioned that there had been threats against the family following Mattia Ahmet Minguzzi's death and that Minguzzi's grave had been vandalized, stated, "We exercised our right to seek justice as required by the rule of law. There are 7 detainees there, 5 of whom are under 18, and 2 are over 18. The grave attacker is also a 67-year-old perpetrator, but he told a story lacking a white-bearded grandfather. We believe that this was orchestrated for his benefit. His trial is ongoing."

Epözdemir spoke about the case being heard today regarding Minguzzi's murder: "A very important development occurred yesterday. We had filed a complaint with the Chief Public Prosecutor's Office as of May 1. In this complaint, we stated that there were 2 more perpetrators at the crime scene. It was crucial to examine the footage and recordings. There is a matter in that footage and recordings that is not mentioned in the expert reports. At 08:11 in the morning, the perpetrator who first arrived at the market takes the knife, while the other one covers. This was a very important piece of evidence for us, the taking and covering of the knife. The covering perpetrator was free."

"THOSE FOOTAGES TELL US A LOT"

Subsequently, the detained perpetrator shows the location of Ahmet Minguzzi to the other 3 perpetrators, and they follow together. This also occurred at 08:19:58. We presented that as well. Another important development emerged yesterday. According to the statement of the detained suspect, this is very important; the argument that occurred in the market was not between B. and Ahmet Minguzzi, but rather an argument that took place in the park around 08:00 in the morning. Expert reports will be prepared regarding that footage and recordings, hopefully, in the Chief Public Prosecutor's file. There is a fight in the park, and after the fight in the park, the parties go down to the market, and after going down to the market, they take the knife. At 08:14, they start cursing at the first encounter. At around 08:18, there is a punch attack in the second encounter, and at 08:20, the murder occurs. Therefore, the way the incident unfolded is the fight that took place in the park above the market. Indeed, when we asked the defendants why they took the knife as soon as they arrived at the market without seeing Ahmet, one of them stated, 'We take this because we foresee that we will argue and might fight; we took it due to that foresight.' However, a fight had occurred beforehand.

It has been established with the statement of one of the suspects detained yesterday. This reveals that the murder was premeditated, showing that the perpetrators followed Ahmet and persistently adhered to the decision to kill. This indicates that there was a consensus on the action regarding Ahmet, that a decision was made beforehand, and it reveals the intensity of intent. This murder was committed with a monstrous feeling and was premeditated. Therefore, as of yesterday, an indictment will be prepared as soon as possible for the two suspects aged 14 and 17, who were detained; they were arrested on the grounds of aiding and abetting the intentional murder of a child. After the preparation of that indictment and the opening of the case, this case will merge with the main case. In the next session, it is highly likely that these two suspects will also be present in this courtroom as detainees and will account for their actions before justice by transitioning to the status of defendants.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Ahmet Mattia Minguzzi, the son of the Italian chef, went to a neighborhood market in Kadıköy, Istanbul, on January 24 to buy skateboarding equipment. Minguzzi was attacked with a knife by children aged 15 and 16 at the market in the Hasanpaşa neighborhood. He was taken to the hospital. Minguzzi, who was admitted to the intensive care unit, passed away on February 9. Following the incident, which caused a significant public outcry, politicians, including President and AK Party Chairman Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and CHP Chairman Özgür Özel, met with the Minguzzi family, and statements were made from various segments of society emphasizing that justice should be served.
