Restaurants, eateries, and cafes will now send information regarding their price lists to the Ministry of Trade through an electronic system. According to the regulation published in the Official Gazette, this will allow consumers to access businesses' price information in a digital environment.
Restaurants, cafes, patisseries, and similar establishments that provide food and beverage services, which are determined by the criteria set by the Ministry of Commerce, will send information regarding their price lists to the Ministry through an electronic system, and consumers will have the opportunity to access the price information of these establishments in a digital environment.
NEW REGULATION TO INCREASE PRICE TRANSPARENCY
The "Regulation Amending the Price Tag Regulation" prepared by the Ministry of Commerce has been published in the Official Gazette and has come into effect. With this regulation, the procedures and principles regarding the price tags of products offered for sale in various businesses have been regulated.
In a statement from the Ministry, it was emphasized that the regulation, which aims to protect consumers' economic interests and increase price transparency in the markets, continues with determination in terms of regulation, inspection, and sanctions. It was stated that "New applications have been implemented to ensure that prices in restaurants, cafes, patisseries, and similar establishments, where our citizens frequently receive services in daily life, are presented openly, accessibly, and honestly."
NOW THEY WILL TRANSFER PRICE LISTS TO THE MINISTRY
The statement highlighted that a mandatory obligation for businesses to share price information has been introduced, providing the following information: "Restaurants, cafes, patisseries, and similar establishments that provide food and beverage services and meet the criteria set by the Ministry of Commerce will be obliged to transfer information regarding their price lists to our Ministry through an electronic system. This data may be shared with relevant institutions and organizations and will be made available to the public in a transparent manner. The procedures and principles regarding the application will be determined and announced by our Ministry. With this regulation, our consumers will have the opportunity to access the price information of the establishments from which they wish to receive services digitally, anytime and anywhere."
WEIGHT OF OPENLY SOLD PRODUCTS WILL BE REDUCED FROM THE PRICE
In the statement indicating that the weight of the container or packaging in which the product is sold openly and weighed in the presence of the consumer (tare) will now be mandatory to be deducted, it was noted that this will ensure that consumers will only pay for the weight of the product they purchase, thus preventing unfair pricing and strengthening the principle of fair trade.
WHETHER DIGITAL OR PHYSICAL
The statement mentioned that businesses providing food and beverage services can also present their price lists to consumers via QR code, and if requested by consumers, businesses will be obliged to show the price list physically as well. This emphasizes that citizens can quickly, easily, and transparently access price information in both digital and physical environments.
ELECTRONIC PRICE DISPLAY IN BOOK AND MAGAZINE SALES
In the statement regarding the transition to electronic price display in book and magazine sales, it was recorded: "In businesses selling books, magazines, newspapers, and similar products, it has become possible to display product prices not only with labels but also through electronic devices. This regulation will enable our consumers to learn the prices of these products more easily, quickly, and accurately. Price lists and applications in restaurants, cafes, patisseries, and similar establishments are being meticulously monitored."
