A pervert who entered the female student dormitory at ITU's Ayazağa Campus, opened the students' room doors while naked and waved, was caught in the laundry room and taken into custody. ITU Rector Prof. Dr. Hasan Mandal stated that the incident would be investigated in all its aspects, that he would personally follow the process, and that the safety of the students was a priority.
A foreign national entered the Prof. Dr. Ali İhsan Aldoğan Girls' Dormitory at Istanbul Technical University (ITU) Ayazağa Campus in Istanbul Sarıyer, and it was claimed that he wandered between floors naked, went to the students' rooms, opened the doors, waved, and was later found in the laundry room.
PERVERT TAKEN INTO CUSTODY
Upon receiving a tip-off, the Istanbul Police Department teams initiated an investigation after determining that the individual was behaving inappropriately. As a result of the operation, M.K. (28), whose identity was identified, was captured by the teams.
It was learned that the suspect taken into custody would be referred to judicial authorities for the crimes of "acting indecently," "violating the inviolability of the home," and "violating the privacy of private life."
STATEMENT FROM ITU RECTOR PROF. DR. MANDAL
ITU Rector Prof. Dr. Hasan Mandal stated in a social media post regarding the incident that intervention was made against the male individual who entered the Ali İhsan Aldoğan Girls' Dormitory on the Ayazağa Campus of the university, and that the process was reported to the security units and brought under control with the intervention of police teams.
Prof. Dr. Mandal noted the following:
"I would like to express that I will personally follow the process with determination to clarify all aspects of the incident and to prevent similar situations from occurring again. An investigation and inquiry will be initiated in our administrative units regarding the incident, and all related processes will be carried out meticulously. Developments regarding the issue will be shared with you in line with the principle of transparency. The safety of our students is my top priority."
A SIMILAR INCIDENT OCCURRED IN IZMIR
On March 29, a person named U.K. (27) entered a girls' dormitory affiliated with KYK in the Çiğli district of Izmir through the fire escape and behaved inappropriately, leading to his detention upon a tip-off. The suspect was arrested and sent to prison, and an investigation was initiated regarding the incident, resulting in the dismissal of the dormitory director N.D.D.
Following two recent incidents at the girls' dormitory, the issue of dormitory security has begun to be discussed in the public domain.
