As nuclear tensions between the US and Iran continue, it has been claimed that Iran is preparing to propose reducing its uranium enrichment rate from 60% to 3.6%. The proposal is expected to revitalize the diplomatic process ahead of talks scheduled to take place in Geneva.
It has been claimed that Iran is ready to propose reducing its uranium enrichment level from 60% to 3.6% ahead of the nuclear negotiations that will continue tomorrow in Geneva, Switzerland. This proposal is seen as a possible diplomatic step that could somewhat ease the tension between Washington and Tehran.
ENRICHMENT RATE WILL BE REDUCED
According to an Arab diplomat who provided information to Israeli state television KAN, Iran plans to propose reducing the enrichment rate in exchange for continuing its nuclear program within certain limitations. It is also reported that Iran's proposal includes a suggestion to suspend uranium enrichment activities for a period of 7 years.
WILL WE RETURN TO 2015?
According to diplomatic sources, Iran's proposal indicates a return to an enrichment rate close to the levels of the 2015 nuclear agreement. However, the Washington administration wants to keep the scope of the proposal broader by also requesting the removal of enriched uranium from the country, but Iran is not currently receptive to this demand.
SEARCH FOR PEACE IN GENEVA
The nuclear talks between the US and Iran had been suspended after direct conflicts and tensions in the region in June 2025, and were revitalized under Oman's mediation. The parties had agreed to meet in Geneva on February 26 to continue the negotiations.
While Iran's proposal is read as a concrete indication of efforts to reduce tensions, the deep trust crisis between the parties and fundamental disagreements regarding the nuclear program emerge as a critical factor that will determine the course of the negotiations.
