According to state television NHK, a smartphone burst into flames aboard a British Airways passenger jet preparing for departure on a Tokyo-London flight. After a report of smoke rising in the cabin, the crew responded to the flames with a fire extinguisher.

SMARTPHONE FOUND TO BELONG TO A PASSENGER

No injuries were reported among the 211 individuals, including crew, on board during the incident. The smartphone was determined to belong to a passenger.

The passenger plane, which returned to its parking spot following instructions from the airport traffic control tower, departed for London with a delay after security checks.
