STUDENTS POISONED DUE TO SNAKE REMNANTS
According to a report by News18, on April 24, hundreds of students were poisoned due to a meal served at a government school in the town of Mokama, Bihar, which contained snake remnants. At least 22 of the poisoned students were hospitalized, and the incident sparked outrage among the local community.
ANGRY CROWD BLOCKED THE ROAD
Angry groups blocked a road, claiming that the negligence of the school administration endangered the health of the children. The National Human Rights Commission of India (NHRC) requested an urgent report on the health status of the children from the Bihar police and local authorities regarding the incident.
The commission stated, "If these allegations are true, it constitutes a serious violation of the students' human rights." India is one of the countries with the largest free meal programs in schools worldwide.
In 2013, 23 students lost their lives due to pesticide contamination in school meals in the country.
