In Mecidiyeköy, Istanbul, a major clash occurred between police teams and those wanting to march to Taksim for May 1st Labor and Solidarity Day. During the moments when many people were detained, CHP Trabzon MP Sibel Suiçmez was also surrounded by the police. Suiçmez reacted to the events by stating, "I am effectively under arrest here."

The struggle for reducing the daily working hours of workers has led to May 1st being celebrated as Labor and Solidarity Day for over a century around the world. In Istanbul, high-level security measures were taken in central areas such as Taksim, Beşiktaş, Şişli, and Kadıköy due to May 1st.

WANTED TO BREAK THE BARRICADE

On Labor and Solidarity Day, individuals who wanted to march to Taksim Square gathered in Beşiktaş and Şişli. The group, chanting various slogans, attempted to break through the barricade set up by the police for precautionary purposes. While the police did not allow the group to proceed, the demonstrators were warned to disperse.

SCUFFLES WITH POLICE OCCURRED

Meanwhile, the group that gathered in Mecidiyeköy tried to pass through the barricades while attempting to march to Taksim. Those in the group, holding carnations, staged a sit-in in front of the police barricade. Despite warnings, the teams detained those in the group who did not disperse in both districts.

During the scuffle between the demonstrators and the police, CHP Trabzon Deputy Sibel Suiçmez was surrounded by the teams. Surrounded by police shields, Suiçmez reacted to the events by saying, "I am under de facto arrest here."
