The General Directorate of Meteorology announced that a severe storm will affect many cities in the Marmara Region, including Istanbul, tomorrow. The meteorology department also warned citizens that rainfall will be significant in the Thrace region.

The General Directorate of Meteorology (MGM) has issued a storm warning for the Marmara Region and a heavy rain warning for the Thrace region for tomorrow.

SEVERE STORM WILL AFFECT ISTANBUL

In a statement made by the MGM Istanbul Regional Forecast and Warning Center, it was reported that starting from noon tomorrow, the wind in the Marmara Region (Edirne, Kırklareli, Tekirdağ, Istanbul, Kocaeli, Sakarya, Yalova) is expected to blow strongly and stormily (50-75 km/h) from the south and west, with local strong storms (80-90 km/h) in some areas.

Authorities noted that citizens should be careful and take precautions against negative events such as falling trees and poles, roof blow-offs, the risk of carbon monoxide poisoning from stoves and natural gas, and disruptions in transportation.

On the other hand, it was stated that the downpours and thunderstorms expected in the Thrace region tomorrow are anticipated to be locally strong (21-50 kg/m2) in the areas surrounding Edirne and Kırklareli, as well as in the interior parts of Tekirdağ (Ergene, Malkara, Saray, Kapaklı, Hayrabolu, Muratlı). Citizens were warned to be careful and take precautions against negative events such as sudden floods, waterlogging, lightning, local small hail, and disruptions in transportation.
