China conducted a notable military test by launching a ballistic missile from a nuclear submarine in the South Pacific. Experts said the test aimed to evaluate not only the missile's performance but also China's nuclear command and control system. While the United States stated that the tested missile was an intercontinental ballistic missile, China argued that the exercise was routine and not directed against any country.

The Chinese military launched a submarine-launched ballistic missile into the South Pacific on Monday. While it was stated that the missile used in the exercise carried a dummy warhead, the US declared that the tested weapon was an intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM).

The Chinese Ministry of Defense, however, argued that the test was a routine military activity, not targeting any country, and was conducted within the framework of international law.

"PART OF NUCLEAR DETERRENCE"

Security experts stated that the test aimed not only to evaluate the missile's technical performance but also the nuclear command, control, and communication systems operated from submarines.

According to analysts, with this test, China aims to convey the message that it is approaching the capability to strike strategic US points in the Pacific, especially Guam and Hawaii.

NUCLEAR SUBMARINES IN THE FOREGROUND

Experts assess that the missile was launched from one of China's nuclear-powered Type-094 class ballistic missile submarines (SSBN).

These submarines are considered key elements of the "second strike" capability, which enables China to retaliate if ground-based nuclear weapons are neutralized in a possible first strike.

"NUCLEAR TRIAD" STRATEGY

The Chinese press argued that the test strengthened the country's "nuclear triad" strategy. This strategy refers to the ability to use nuclear weapons from land, sea, and air platforms.

It is noted that the US and its allies closely monitor China's submarine activities with warships, submarine sensor networks, and reconnaissance aircraft. The test is considered an important stage in the process of developing China's nuclear deterrence capability.
