Minister of Justice Akın Gürlek announced that the unsolved murder of Mehmet Emin Karaalp, killed in 2016 in the Çermik district of Diyarbakır, has been clarified through DNA and HTS analyses within the scope of the reopened investigation, and 8 suspects have been detained in a JASAT operation.
Minister of Justice Akın Gürlek announced that the unsolved murder of 22-year-old Mehmet Emin Karaalp, who was killed in 2016 in the Çermik district of Diyarbakır, has been solved within the scope of a renewed investigation. Gürlek reported that eight suspects, identified through DNA analyses, HTS records, and narrowed base station analyses, were taken into custody in a JASAT operation.
Minister of Justice Akın Gürlek announced that the unsolved murder of 22-year-old Mehmet Emin Karaalp, who was shot in the head and killed on April 18, 2016, in the Çermik district of Diyarbakır, has been solved as a result of a renewed investigation 10 years later.
TAKEN UP AFTER 10 YEARS
In his statement, Gürlek said, 'The unsolved murder of 22-year-old Mehmet Emin Karaalp, who was shot in the head and killed on April 18, 2016, in the Çermik district of Diyarbakır, was taken up again after 10 years under the coordination of our Unsolved Crimes Investigation Department and has been solved.'
Stating that the investigation was initiated by the Çermik Chief Public Prosecutor's Office and continued by the Ergani Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, Gürlek noted that suspects were identified through advanced molecular genetic analyses on cigarette butts found at the scene, as well as HTS and narrowed base station analyses.
8 PEOPLE TAKEN INTO CUSTODY
Gürlek reported that eight individuals, assessed to be linked to the murder and to have assisted the suspects based on DNA matches, communication records, and other evidence, were taken into custody in an operation organized by JASAT teams under the coordination of the Ergani Chief Public Prosecutor's Office.
In his statement, Gürlek said, 'It has been demonstrated once again that no victim family's search for justice will go unanswered, and that the passage of time will never provide assurance to the perpetrators. All files from the past that have remained in the dark will be pursued with the same determination.' He also thanked the Ergani and Çermik Chief Public Prosecutor's Offices, the Diyarbakır Provincial Gendarmerie Command, the Unsolved Crimes Investigation Department, the Forensic Medicine Institute, and the JASAT teams for conducting the investigation.
