In the actions organized against the corruption and terrorism investigation targeting the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (İBB), 206 suspects who were detained have been referred to the court with a request for arrest. Among them, 172 suspects, including 7 journalists, have been arrested and sent to prison.
After the arrest of Ekrem İmamoğlu by the duty magistrate as part of the 'corruption' investigation, 172 of the 208 suspects detained in the investigation into the illegal meetings and demonstrations were arrested.
206 SUSPECTS DETAINED IN ILLEGAL DEMONSTRATIONS
Following the arrest of Ekrem İmamoğlu in relation to two separate investigations conducted by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office regarding allegations of terrorism and corruption against the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality and Ekrem İmamoğlu, an investigation was initiated ex officio against suspects who were found to have made insulting statements against the President and his family during the events that occurred at the IMM building and some streets. A total of 206 suspects were detained for the crimes of 'violating the law on meetings and demonstrations', 'resisting a public officer', and 'insulting the President'.
172 PEOPLE ARRESTED
The detained suspects were transferred to the courthouse after completing their procedures at the police station. After their statements at the prosecutor's office, 206 suspects were referred to the duty Peace Criminal Court. Of the 206 suspects whose procedures were completed at the duty court, 172 were arrested and sent to prison, while 29 were released under judicial control. Meanwhile, 6 suspects were placed under house arrest, and 1 suspect was released.
