An accident occurred in the Tekman district of Erzurum when a truck carrying livestock sent to the Siverek district of Şanlıurfa as part of winter-period husbandry overturned. In the incident, 130 of the 300 small ruminants transported in the truck died.
The accident occurred at the Gündamı location on the 4th kilometer of the Tekman–Hınıs highway. According to the information obtained, the truck, which set out from Toptepe Neighborhood of Tekman with 300 small ruminants loaded for winter pasture transfer toward the Siverek district of Şanlıurfa, lost control and overturned after its driver lost steering control on the curve.
CLAIM THAT A PICKUP TRUCK OVERTAKED ON THE CURVE
The owner of the animals, who encountered a horrific scene after the accident, described the moment of the incident. Claiming that an improper overtaking maneuver was made on the curve, the animal owner said: "A pickup truck was coming from behind us. Just as it tried to overtake us on the curve, the truck driver lost steering control. The truck went out of control and overturned, and as a result, 130 of our animals died."
ACCIDENTS HAD ALSO OCCURRED ON THAT CURVE BEFORE
Local residents and drivers stated that the curve at the Gündamı location where the accident occurred is quite dangerous. While attention was drawn to the fact that similar accidents had occurred in the same place before, it was claimed that the absence of a transverse slope in the curve's engineering structure directly invited these accidents.
Upon the report, security forces were dispatched to the scene, and an investigation into the accident was launched. Efforts continue to remove the dead animals from the road and restore normal traffic flow in the area.
