WHITE HOUSE. IF CHINA CONTINUES TO RETALIATE, IT WILL NOT BE GOOD FOR CHINA

In a statement to reporters, White House spokesperson Karoline Leavitt addressed the escalating trade war with China that is shaking the markets, noting that U.S. President Donald Trump is optimistic about reaching a trade agreement with Beijing. In her statement, Leavitt warned China, saying, "If China continues to retaliate, it will not be good for China."

"IF IRAN DOES NOT ABANDON ITS NUCLEAR PROGRAM, IT WILL GO TO HELL"

Speaking about the nuclear tension with Iran, Leavitt said, "President Donald Trump wants Iran to know that if it does not abandon its nuclear program, it will go to hell." Leavitt stated that Trump's ultimate goal is to ensure that Iran never obtains nuclear weapons, emphasizing that "all options are on the table" if diplomatic efforts fail. Leavitt remarked, "However, he made it very clear to the Iranians and the national security team that all options are on the table and that Iran needs to make a choice. You either accept President Trump's demands, or the cost will be high. The President thinks so too. He has very strong feelings about this."

POSSIBLE TRUMP VISIT TO TURKEY

In response to a question about whether Trump would visit Turkey during his Middle East tour, Leavitt said, "I don't know any details other than to say that the President will be going to Saudi Arabia regarding his overseas trip, and there may be other countries involved in this trip. We are working on the details. As I have said many times, we will share the content of this trip as soon as possible."

MUTUAL "TARIFF" INCREASE BETWEEN THE U.S. AND TRUMP

On April 2, U.S. President Donald Trump announced that he would impose an additional 34% tariff on China under "mutual tariffs." China reacted to the U.S. tariff increase, announcing that it would impose an additional tariff of the same rate against the 34% tariff increase. In response, President Trump stated that if China did not withdraw the additional 34% tariff increase it imposed in retaliation to the mutual tariffs, he would impose an additional 50% tariff.

China also responded to Trump's additional tariff threat by raising the customs tariff on imported products from the U.S. to 84%. As a result of the tariff standoff that began between the two countries, the U.S. had raised the customs tariff it imposed on China to 125%, and then to 145%. While the Washington administration postponed additional tariffs imposed on other countries for 90 days, tariffs against China went into effect. In the escalating trade tensions with the U.S., China imposed an additional 125% customs tax on imported products from the U.S. in response to Washington's tariff increase.
