REQUEST TO JOIN THE CASE FROM THE MINISTRY AND UCİM During the hearing held at the 17th Criminal Court of First Instance, lawyers from the Ministry of Family and Social Services and the Association for the Struggle Against Child Abuse (UCİM) requested to join the case.
"THE MAIN PURPOSE HERE IS TO PROTECT CHILDREN" Mustafa Demir, one of the defendants' lawyers, stated regarding the issue during the break in the hearing, "The court accepted unauthorized individuals as participants at the beginning of the hearing. These are the Ministry of Family and Social Services and UCİM. We expressed that this is not in accordance with the law, and the concept of those harmed by the crime is clearly defined in the law. This cannot be expanded or interpreted broadly. The main purpose here is to protect children. The inclusion of unauthorized individuals in the trial concerning the protection of children with superior interests will violate confidentiality, and we know what the acceptance of unauthorized individuals in previous trials has led to, which is why we objected. The judge did not accept our request. We then filed a request for the rejection of the judge. Our request for the rejection of the judge was denied on the grounds that it was not submitted in writing. We immediately made a written application and referred to the relevant provision of the Criminal Procedure Code. The Criminal Procedure Code states that it must be recorded by the court clerk. So, it does not need to be in writing. We reiterated our written request. We renewed our objections stating that the trial is being conducted unlawfully. ACCEPTED After the speeches of the defendants' lawyers, the hearing, which was adjourned for 30 minutes, resumed. The judge, evaluating the request of the Ministry and UCİM to join the case, decided to accept the participation requests.
