Parents of young people who repeatedly search for suicide or self-harm on the social media platform Instagram will receive warning notifications.

Instagram will send warning notifications to the parents of young users who repeatedly search for topics related to suicide or self-harm. These new measures will be implemented to protect young accounts and enhance parental controls.

PARENTS OF CHILDREN SEARCHING FOR "SUICIDE" WILL BE NOTIFIED

According to a statement from American technology company Meta, new measures will come into effect to protect "young account" users on Instagram and increase parental controls.

If it is determined that young users on the platform are repeatedly searching for topics related to suicide or self-harm within a certain time frame, their parents will be alerted. Parents using Instagram's child supervision program will receive warning messages via email, text message, WhatsApp, or in-app notifications on the grounds that "their child may need support."

PARENTS WILL BE SUPPORTED WITH CONTENT

Parents will also be offered the option to benefit from expert content designed to help them discuss sensitive topics with their children. The new application, which will start in the coming weeks in the USA, UK, Australia, and Canada, will also be available in other countries later in the year.

It is noteworthy that this measure comes at a time when Meta is facing multiple lawsuits in the USA over claims of "harm to children."
