The Advertising Board of the Ministry of Trade imposed access restrictions on social media accounts that advertise illegal gambling and imposed a total fine of 7.6 million TL for risky knife sales.

The Ministry of Trade Advertising Board has imposed access restrictions on websites identified as making illegal betting advertisements.

The 366th meeting of the Advertising Board, operating under the Ministry of Trade, was held on February 12. The main agenda of the meeting included the increasing use of knives in social events, particularly focusing on knife promotions on e-commerce platforms and illegal betting and gambling advertisements. Access restrictions were imposed on 11 social media accounts that were making illegal betting and gambling advertisements.

ACCESS RESTRICTIONS IMPOSED ON 11 SOCIAL MEDIA ACCOUNTS

Another important topic on the Advertising Board's agenda was the identification of 11 high-follower social media accounts that were found to be making illegal betting and gambling advertisements and directing consumers to various illegal sites. It was decided to implement access restrictions on these accounts. Additionally, it was resolved to make the necessary applications to the relevant institutions to initiate judicial investigation processes regarding these social media accounts and the operators of illegal betting and gambling sites.

STOPPAGE OF RISKY KNIFE SALES ADVERTISEMENTS AND A FINE OF 7.6 MILLION TL

As a result of the ex officio examination conducted by the Board, it was determined that knives, which are prohibited to be possessed and even produced within the country or are subject to certain rules for transportation, could be easily obtained through e-commerce platforms. It was evaluated that the necessary safety rules were not observed in the sales and promotion processes, and that the said promotions contained content and presentations that could pose risks to public safety and could encourage behaviors that might disrupt public order. Consequently, it was decided to impose stoppage penalties on 7 e-commerce platforms regarding these promotions, along with a total administrative fine of 7 million 585 thousand 942 TL.
