Television producer Acun Ilıcalı came to the Çağlayan Courthouse due to an illegal betting case filed against him. In his statement to the prosecutor, Ilıcalı stated that his income is between 1-5 million lira and said, "I do not understand why I am here."
The English team Hull City President and television producer Acun Ilıcalı arrived at Çağlayan Courthouse this morning as part of the illegal betting case opened against him.
SUBJECT: ILLEGAL BETTING
A legal process was initiated with the allegation that illegal betting advertisements were included in some football matches broadcasted on the TV8 channel and the digital content platform Exxen.
The investigation includes not only Ilıcalı but also the channel and platform managers. In the indictment prepared by the prosecutor's office, a prison sentence of up to 5 years and 3 months is requested for each defendant on the charge of "encouragement and advertisement of illegal betting."
REVEALED HIS MONTHLY INCOME
According to the news by Ekol TV reporter Dilek Yaman Demir, Ilıcalı, who initially used the term "variable" regarding his income in his statement to the prosecutor's office, later updated this figure from 1 million lira to 5 million lira. Ilıcalı stated: "I have been in shock about this case for months. I do not understand why I am here. Matches that have been broadcast for 8-10 years are shown without interference, and broadcasters cannot do anything."
Regarding the broadcasting process, Ilıcalı added: "We have no intervention other than applying to UEFA to broadcast matches abroad. Broadcasters cannot change the matches either. We only broadcast the matches we have purchased. We have no chance of blocking."
Ilıcalı also expressed his feelings about the case, saying, "I am facing such an accusation for the first time, and this situation makes me very sad. I apologize to my friends. I believe we have done nothing wrong, but I take responsibility." Ilıcalı emphasized that the processes related to broadcasting national matches in Turkey are conducted within a legal framework and pointed out the legal aspects of the process.
