In the UEFA Champions League play-off round, Fenerbahçe defeated French side Olympique Lyon 2-1 in the second leg after a 1-1 draw, securing their place in the Champions League league phase.
TWO TURKISH TEAMS IN THE CHAMPIONS LEAGUE AFTER 18 YEARS
The yellow-navy team became the second Turkish club in the tournament, following Galatasaray, who finished last season as Trendyol Super League champions and qualified for the Champions League. Thus, there will be two Turkish teams in the 36-team league phase of the Champions League. The longing for Turkish teams to compete with two clubs in the Champions League has also come to an end. Turkish representatives last took part with two teams in the group stage of the previous Champions League format in the 2007-2008 season. In that season, Beşiktaş and Fenerbahçe competed.
In total, Turkish teams will be present in the Champions League with two clubs for the 6th time. Previously, in the 1997-1998, 2000-2001, and 2003-2004 seasons, Galatasaray and Beşiktaş represented Turkey. In the 2001-2002 season, Galatasaray and Fenerbahçe took part, and in the 2007-2008 season, Fenerbahçe and Beşiktaş competed in the tournament.
