After the arrest of Görele Mayor Hasbi Dede in connection with an investigation into allegations of sexual harassment, CHP council members Hüseyin Gürel and Fırat İmat resigned from their parties. Following the resignations, the number of CHP members in the council dropped to 5.
After the arrest of Görele Mayor Hasbi Dede, two council members from the Republican People's Party (CHP) resigned ahead of the mayoral election to be held in the Municipal Council.
THEY RESIGNED AFTER THE MAYOR'S ARREST
Following the decision to arrest Hasbi Dede on charges of "sexual harassment" related to a message allegedly shared on social media, the Ministry of Interior had decided to suspend him from duty. Before the mayoral election to be held on Monday, February 16, CHP council members Hüseyin Gürel and Fırat İmat announced that they had resigned from their party.
In his statement, Hüseyin Gürel noted that the allegations reflected in the public recently had created discomfort in the conscience of society, expressing that he resigned from CHP membership due to the party's failure to demonstrate a clear political stance that would ease the public conscience and his moral responsibility.
CHP'S NUMBER OF SEATS DROPPED TO 5
Fırat İmat, in his statement, emphasized that remaining silent in the face of the moral sensitivities of society was not right, stating that political responsibility is not only about waiting for the legal process but also about considering the public conscience, and announced that he had left the CHP membership.
After the resignations, the number of CHP members in the Görele Municipal Council dropped to 5, while the AK Party has 4 council members. Additionally, there are 2 independent members in the council.
