After murdering Ayşenur Halil and İkbal Uzuner in Istanbul, 19-year-old perpetrator Semih Çelik committed suicide. An examination of his phone revealed that he was in contact with individuals who express hostility towards women and the society they live in, referred to as "incels," on a messaging application. Following the emergence of images that also gained attention on Discord, it was learned that the police are monitoring "incel" groups across 81 provinces.
Research continues regarding Semih Çelik, who brutally murdered two young girls, both 19 years old like himself, before jumping from the walls to commit suicide on Friday in Istanbul.

An examination of Çelik's phone revealed that he communicated with individuals referred to as "incels" in a group he was a member of through a messaging application.
WHAT DOES "INCEL" MEAN?
"Incel," which is an abbreviation of "involuntary celibacy," refers to individuals who harbor animosity towards women and the society they live in, and who are prone to violence.
POLICE WENT ON ALERT
Following the heinous murders committed by Semih Çelik, the police took action across 81 provinces after receiving "supportive" and "praising" messages from individuals fitting this description, particularly on the social media platform Discord.
MONITORING AND SURVEILLANCE BEGAN ON THE INTERNET
It has been learned that cyber patrol teams have started monitoring accounts and sites that publish and share content related to sexual violence, as well as racism, with a focus on the "incel" movement, using a 24/7 method of surveillance on the internet.
