Following the brawl in Silifke district of Mersin, 3 suspects were arrested and 1 suspect was released under judicial control in the investigation launched. Justice Minister Akın Gürlek emphasized that no attempts to disrupt peace and security in tourist areas will be tolerated and stated that the process is being closely monitored.
In an incident that occurred on Tuesday, June 16, at around 18:00 in the Atakent Neighborhood of Mersin's Silifke district, Murat Acar was assaulted by individuals he had a verbal argument with.
According to the findings, Hasan Sakar, Gökhan Güven, Adil Metehan Haciboncuk, and Oğulcan Çetin attacked Murat Acar with sticks and a glass bottle. Acar, injured in the head, was taken to the hospital after medical intervention.
RECEIVED TREATMENT AT THE HOSPITAL
It was learned that the injured Murat Acar's life was not in danger. Acar, who was taken under treatment at the hospital, was discharged on the same day after the procedures were completed.
4 SUSPECTS TAKEN INTO CUSTODY
Following the incident, within the scope of the investigation launched, Hasan Sakar, Gökhan Güven, Adil Metehan Haciboncuk, and Oğulcan Çetin were taken into custody. Under the investigation conducted by the Silifke Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, the suspects were referred to the courthouse.
3 PEOPLE ARRESTED
Upon the request of the prosecutor's office, Hasan Sakar, Gökhan Güven, and Adil Metehan Haciboncuk, who were brought before the Criminal Judgeship of Peace, were arrested and sent to prison. Judicial control decision was issued for the suspect Oğulcan Çetin.
STATEMENT FROM MINISTER GÜRLEK
Justice Minister Akın Gürlek stated in his statement regarding the incident that the peace and security environment in tourism regions is an indispensable priority of the state.
Gürlek expressed that after the incident in Silifke which resulted in a citizen being injured, the judicial process was immediately initiated, within the scope of the investigation three suspects were arrested, and a judicial control decision was issued for one suspect.
"NO TOLERANCE WILL BE SHOWN TO ANY ATTEMPT"
Emphasizing that individuals who victimize tourists through pressure, threats, deception, or bullying, as well as businesses and organized structures directing touting activities, are under close monitoring by judicial authorities, Gürlek said that no attempt targeting the safety of citizens and guests visiting Turkey will be tolerated.
Gürlek stated that the fight against actions harming tourism security and public order will be resolutely continued within the framework of the rule of law principles, and noted that the Ministry of Justice will follow the process in coordination with relevant institutions.
