The first hearing in the case regarding the murder of Mattia Ahmet Minguzzi was held today in Kadıköy. In the trial where two defendants are being prosecuted, Ahmet Minguzzi's aunt, Aylin Akıncılar İyiyazıcıoğlu, expressed her reaction after the hearing. İyiyazıcıoğlu reacted by saying to one of the defendants, "He is looking into my eyes."
Ahmet Mattia Minguzzi (15), who lost his life after being stabbed at a market in Kadıköy, Istanbul on January 24, was the subject of an investigation regarding his murder. It was learned that the suspects, B.B. and U.B., are 15 years old, and the indictment prepared with a request for up to 24 years of imprisonment for the crime of "Intentional Murder of a Child" was accepted.
The hearing, which started at 10:20 AM at the 2nd Children's Heavy Criminal Court in Kartal, was held behind closed doors because the suspects are under 18.
TENSION IN FRONT OF THE COURTROOM
A brief tension occurred between the lawyers who requested to attend the hearing and the security personnel. The requests of the lawyers waiting outside the courtroom to attend the hearing were rejected.
INTERIM DECISION ANNOUNCED
The court panel, which announced the interim decision, decided to postpone the next hearing to May 8 and to hear two witnesses.
REACTION FROM THE AUNT
Yasemin Minguzzi, the mother of Ahmet Minguzzi, reacted while leaving the courtroom, saying, "He is looking into my eyes." Relatives intervened as the aunt fainted.
GRAVE VANDALIZED BEFORE THE HEARING
Before the hearing, the grave of Mattia Ahmet Minguzzi in Bahçelievler was vandalized and damaged.
INVESTIGATION INITIATED
The Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office initiated an ex officio investigation for the crime of "Damaging Cemeteries" following the allegation of vandalism of Mattia Ahmet Minguzzi's grave.
In a statement, the prosecutor's office also noted, "Necessary procedures are being meticulously carried out to uncover the material truth in all its aspects within the scope of the investigation."
"THREAT MESSAGE TO THE FAMILY AND THE JUDICIARY"
Rezan Epözdemir, the lawyer of the Minguzzi Family, stated that this attack aimed to send a threat message to the family before the hearing, saying, "We received that message, we are not afraid. I spoke with our court president about taking security measures."
Epözdemir, who stated that they filed a complaint after the cemetery attack, said, "We are facing perpetrators and their relatives who send a message to the judiciary and law enforcement, threatening us that they can destroy the grave and telling us not to come to the hearing. Our legal struggle will continue to the end."
