"IT HAS BECOME A SERIOUS THREAT TO OUR CHILDREN"

Speaking at the meeting, Katırcıoğlu said, "The uncontrolled growth of digital media has shown that it has become a serious threat to our children. The rapid proliferation of phone and internet technologies leaves our children vulnerable to the negative effects of social networks. I would like to emphasize that the studies we have conducted so far have shown us that the uncontrolled growth of digital media has become a serious threat to our children. The rapid proliferation of phone and internet technologies leaves our children vulnerable to the negative effects of social networks. Sexual abuse and violence against children, digital addiction, peer bullying, and cyberbullying, as well as the activities of international terrorist organizations on digital platforms, and the activities of the LGBT+ lobby, show that when technology is used uncontrollably and falls into the hands of malicious individuals, it becomes a significant security threat. Today, our children are targets of dark entities that seek to seize their minds and bodies," she said.

Stating that digital media has become a field where terrorist organizations recruit members and deviant individuals seek victims, Katırcıoğlu said, "It is the joint responsibility of the state, family, and society to protect our children on these platforms that have turned into a garbage dump of information. In global examples, some countries have developed comprehensive state policies to combat these threats. Countries like Japan, Singapore, Australia, Norway, and France aim to protect their children through restrictions and controlled access policies in the digital world. As the Grand National Assembly of Turkey, we will continue to keep on our agenda the discussions and considerations regarding the principle of the best interests of the child, including examining international examples on-site starting next month, age restrictions in social media usage, the establishment of a national secure internet network for children, increasing applications of digital operators aimed at children, restricting programs and productions that would set a bad example for our children on television screens, conducting educational activities for families, and adding digital media literacy as a mandatory subject in the National Education Curriculum," she stated.
