The AK Party Central Executive Committee (MEC) convened under the chairmanship of President and AK Party Chairman Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. Speaking after the meeting, AK Party Spokesperson Ömer Çelik stated that the Terror-Free Turkey process law will emerge before Parliament closes, saying, 'We have reached a new stage regarding Terror-Free Turkey. We are holding numerous meetings. What comes next is important. We are at a stage of finer workmanship. The issue is just beginning.'
The Central Executive Board (MYK) of the AK Party convened under the chairmanship of President and AK Party Chairman Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. AK Party Spokesperson Ömer Çelik made statements regarding the AK Party MYK meeting.
The highlights of Ömer Çelik's statements are as follows:
"Today we are discussing two main topics. One is the event we will hold on August 14 to mark the 100th anniversary of our party's founding. Within that framework, our Deputy Chairman responsible for Media and Promotion, Mr. Faruk Acar, will make a presentation. Also, in terms of evaluating the economic dimension of a Terror-Free Turkey, our Deputy Chairman responsible for Economic Affairs, Mr. Nihat Zeybekci, will give a comprehensive presentation. Of course, as always, our Group Chairman, Mr. Abdullah Güler, will provide information about the work of the Turkish Grand National Assembly. Our MYK will continue with the evaluations of our other colleagues. I will share information with you on these matters.
"WE ARE ALL PROUD OF THE SULTANS OF THE NET"
First of all, we congratulate the Sultans of the Net once again. They brought a magnificent championship to our country. We are all proud of them. The joy of our nation is immense. They elevated the joy not only of the sports community but of every individual in our nation. They made us all feel great pride. Therefore, we extend our thanks and congratulations once again to the Sultans of the Net. We also express that our support is always with them.
TERROR-FREE TURKEY PROCESS
I have previously told you about a Terror-Free Turkey. I stated that we have reached a new phase. The new phase was the emergence of a legal framework, a legal basis, to ensure disarmament and achieve the goals of a Terror-Free Turkey and a terror-free region. To tell the truth, we are holding numerous meetings on this. We are working almost every day. Of course, we continue our consultations. We are talking about a very comprehensive process with political, legal, intelligence, and strategic dimensions. The will demonstrated so far—by the People's Alliance, the work carried out in the Turkish Grand National Assembly through a commission chaired by our Speaker, the execution of this as a state policy with the instructions of our President, and the strategic interventions by Mr. Bahçeli's statements to pave the way for this issue—has ensured that this entire period has been extremely dynamic. Within all this dynamism, nothing has been done to cast a shadow over the qualities of our state and the values of our nation.
"WE ARE NOW IN THE PHASE OF FINER WORKMANSHIP"
What is essential here, as we always say, is to protect Turkey's fundamental values. It is to rid Turkey of the burden of terrorism. It is important to have come this far. There is a saying: 'If we are not going to walk from here on, why did we come this far?' Now we are in the phase of finer workmanship. In a way, from another perspective, the matter is just beginning. To achieve the goals of a Terror-Free Turkey and a terror-free region, the creation of a legal basis is of course extremely important. But at the same time, the political atmosphere created is important. Whether it contributes positively to the social atmosphere is important. Therefore, contributions are of course very valuable in this process. Constructive criticisms are also very valuable. However, bringing up narrow neighborhood ideologies under the guise of contribution is extremely harmful. Or making destructive criticisms instead of being constructive under the guise of criticism is extremely harmful. Because this is an issue that concerns all of Turkey. This issue is not one that exists or does not exist based solely on political perspectives.
Turkey has been fighting terrorism for a long time. During our governments, we implemented many reforms to close Turkey's democracy deficit and to resolve problems arising from that deficit, even in the most difficult times, during the heaviest and darkest periods of tutelage, we undertook strong reforms. Of course, the greatest appreciation, the greatest pride, and the greatest value belong to the individuals of our nation. Until now, our country has been the target of many intelligence operations, provocations, and assassinations aimed at sowing discord among our people as Turks and Kurds, Alevis and Sunnis. It has faced many operations to shape our political history and political parties. But whether they are Turks, Kurds, Alevis, or Sunnis, not a single sensible individual of our nation has looked askance at another in the face of all these provocations."
