Fourteen suspects have been detained on allegations of manipulation in certain transactions on the Borsa İstanbul (BIST) stock market. It has been reported that among those detained is strategist Işık Ökte.
Action was taken following the findings by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office regarding the capital market instruments, where unusual fluctuations in trading volume and stock prices were observed, contrary to the normal course of life, and artificial increases harmed small investors.
INVESTIGATION INITIATED
The Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, which initiated an investigation on the matter, issued detention orders for 14 suspects, including strategist Işık Ökte. Ökte, responding to questions from IHA reporters, said, "We don't know what is happening either, but they brought us too."
14 SUSPECTS IN CUSTODY
Teams from the Istanbul Police Department's Financial Crimes Unit conducted simultaneous operations to capture the suspects. The 14 suspects taken into custody were brought to the Istanbul Police Department's headquarters on Vatan Avenue.
In a statement from the Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, it was reported that judicial action was taken against the officials of Investco Holding, who were identified as having laundered the proceeds of the crime of "violating the Capital Markets Law" by using the stock exchange and other investment instruments.
The statement included, "Names and companies mentioned in the reports regarding the value obtained from the crime, prepared by the Financial Crimes Investigation Board and the Capital Markets Board, are being examined within the scope of the case. 14 suspects whose actions have been identified have been taken into custody. Our Chief Public Prosecutor's Office is conducting the investigation meticulously in all aspects."
