In a middle school in Şişli, Istanbul, it was alleged that a physical education teacher assaulted a 14-year-old student by asking, "Why are you laughing?" The student reportedly sustained bruises and scratches on their body, and a medical report was obtained. The family filed a complaint against the teacher, and an investigation into the incident has been launched.
An incident allegedly occurred yesterday at around 10:30 AM at Atatürk Middle School in the Şişli district of Istanbul. A physical education teacher, Kenan K. (45), and his student B.K. (14) had an argument in the classroom. According to claims, the teacher asked the student, 'Why are you laughing?' and following the dispute, the child was assaulted. After the incident, the school administration informed the student's family. B.K.'s father, who came to the school, stated that they would file a complaint against the teacher.
FAMILY COMPLAINED ABOUT THE TEACHER
It was learned that the student had mild redness on his body but no life-threatening condition. Later, B.K. was taken to the hospital with his family and an assault report was issued. The report stated that the student's injury was of a nature that could be treated with simple medical intervention. While the student's statement was taken, an investigation into the incident was initiated.
"HE PUNCHED ME ON THE LEFT SIDE OF MY NECK"
B.K., whose statement was taken at the police station, said, 'Since the attendance was low in the classroom, all classes were gathered in the same room. While I was sitting by the wall, the homeroom teacher Esra came in. After a while, the physical education teacher Kenan K. entered. He came toward me and said, 'Why are you laughing?' I said, 'I'm not laughing, teacher.' He grabbed my hand and tried to pull me. Then he punched me on the left side of my neck. After that, he hit my back, the top of my left arm, and the back of my head repeatedly. As a result, there are bruises and scratches on the areas he hit. Then other teachers in the school came to the classroom and intervened. Kenan K. let me go. They took me to the school security booth. I called my mother and informed her, then my father came. Later, we went to the hospital to get an assault report. I am filing a lawsuit and complaint against Kenan K., the school teacher who assaulted me,' it was learned.
"WHO WILL WE TRUST?"
Mother Gülümser Kızgın (46) said, 'Student B.K. is an 8th-grade student. At school, he was assaulted by the physical education teacher just for laughing. We took him to the hospital; we have the assault reports. We have filed a lawsuit now, and the school principal told us, 'Don't go to the Ministry of National Education; you can only file a lawsuit.' I will also go to the Ministry of National Education and I will pursue this matter. This is a school we trust. If our schools are like this, and if we cannot trust our teachers, who will we trust? We can't even slap our children at home, but teachers assault our children at school. I want the Ministry of National Education to investigate this incident, and I want this teacher to be removed from this school,' she said.
