A striking decision came from 41-year-old Santi Cazorla, who played for Spanish Segunda División team Real Oviedo in the past season.

Santi Cazorla announced his retirement from football in a statement on his social media account. The Spanish footballer previously played for teams such as Arsenal and Villarreal in his career.

Santi Cazorla achieved the success of winning 13 trophies during his 23-year career. The Spanish footballer won 2 FA Cups, 1 Intertoto Cup, 2 English Super Cups, 2 Qatar Stars Leagues, 2 Qatar Emir Cups, 1 Qatar League Cup, and 1 Qatar Stars Cup. At the international level, Cazorla won the European Championship twice, was named Spain's Footballer of the Year once, and Arsenal's Player of the Year once.

RETURNED TO THE PITCH AFTER 636 DAYS

The Spanish footballer injured his right ankle in a UEFA Champions League match against Ludogorets while playing for Arsenal in 2016 and underwent surgery. Cazorla, who subsequently went under the knife multiple times and risked losing his foot, regained his health through a tissue transplant from his own body and returned to the pitch after 636 days, playing for Villarreal.

Cazorla played over 600 matches for clubs such as Villarreal, Arsenal, and Real Oviedo during his career. The ambidextrous footballer contributed over 100 goals and assists throughout his club career.
