The Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor's Office has initiated an ex officio investigation regarding former Ankara Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Melih Gökçek, with the aim of uncovering the material truth concerning allegations that undeclared money was transferred to companies abroad.
An investigation has been launched into Melih Gökçek, the former Mayor of Ankara Metropolitan Municipality.
STATEMENT FROM THE CHIEF PUBLIC PROSECUTOR'S OFFICE
In a statement made by the Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, it was reported that an investigation was initiated ex officio regarding the allegations that unregistered money was transferred to companies abroad involving Gökçek, in order to uncover the material truth.
WHAT HAPPENED?
Journalist Murat Ağırel had claimed that former Ankara Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Melih Gökçek and his family carried out real estate purchases and money transfers worth millions of Euros in Germany through a shell company. Stating that he went to Germany and filmed the said properties on site, Ağırel drew attention to the high-volume money traffic in his claims, which he based on company records, bank transactions, and sales contracts.
CLAIM OF TRANSFERS WORTH MILLIONS OF EUROS
According to the information put forward by Ağırel, Melih Gökçek's daughter-in-law, Hülya Gökçek, gave power of attorney to Filiz Polat İşler in 2022 for the purpose of establishing a company in Germany. It was claimed that in line with this power of attorney, a company named "HAMAG" was established in Cologne with a capital of 30 thousand Euros. Ağırel, who asserted that despite the company having no employees or turnover, high amounts of money were transferred from Turkey, argued based on the documents he shared that first 722 thousand Euros and then 3 million 857 thousand Euros were transferred to the company account in 2023.
ALLEGATIONS OF BUILDING AND SHOPPING MALL AGREEMENT IN DÜSSELDORF
The real estate purchases and initiatives alleged to have been carried out through the HAMAG company came to the agenda with the following details:
- Claim of building with 18 apartments: It was alleged that a building with 18 apartments in Düsseldorf was purchased through HAMAG for 3 million 857 thousand Euros. It was claimed that renovation expenses exceeding 500 thousand Euros were made for the property, which was allegedly planned to be converted into a dormitory, and that the total cost reached 4.5 million Euros.
- Claim of shopping mall contract worth 8.5 Million Euros: It was alleged that Hülya Gökçek and Ahmet Gökçek signed a contract worth 8.5 million Euros on May 21, 2025, to purchase a shopping mall consisting of 5 shops and 18 apartments in the city of Velbert, near Düsseldorf. It was claimed that the purchase could not be completed, but 500 thousand Euros was paid due to termination and intermediary fees.
- Claim of shopping center in Luxembourg: Ağırel also claimed that the Gökçek family was conducting negotiations to purchase the Massen Shopping Center in Luxembourg, valued at 280 million Euros.
GÖKÇEK: WE WILL SEE EACH OTHER IN COURT
Following the allegations, Gökçek, who published a lengthy statement on his social media account, described the information put forward in Murat Ağırel's broadcast as "slander." Accusing Ağırel of being supported by some lawyers and accounts linked to FETÖ, Gökçek used the following statements: "You received a prison sentence of four years and eight months for exposing the identities of our martyred MIT members. You lost all the claims you previously made about my son Osman Gökçek in court. Now, you are the one being tried because of the slanders you have made. Your 'big brothers' who had you write a book and gave you this information, how many times did they commit fraud in ABB... If you acted relying on the legal power of Mansur Yavaş, then woe to you! With God's permission, when you lose these claims you have made in court, do not dare come and ask for forgiveness. I will hold you accountable for your slanders to the fullest extent before the law. We will see each other in court..."
