The Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office had launched an investigation for the crime of "forgery in official documents" based on reports of the falsification of İBB President Ekrem İmamoğlu's diploma and findings in the report prepared by the Higher Education Council. İmamoğlu had given a statement to the prosecutor's office as part of the investigation.

The Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, in a letter sent to Istanbul University regarding the investigation opened against İmamoğlu on the grounds that his university diploma was fake, requested that the necessary actions be taken as soon as possible to ensure that the transactions to be established based on İmamoğlu's diploma are not contrary to the law.

DIPLOMA WAS CANCELLED DUE TO "NONEXISTENCE" AND "OBVIOUS ERROR"

In a later statement made by Istanbul University, it was noted that the diplomas of 28 individuals, including İBB President İmamoğlu, were decided to be revoked on the grounds of "nonexistence" and "obvious error."

The statement said, "According to the report prepared by the Review Commission, it has been decided to revoke the horizontal transfer decisions of 10 individuals whose registrations were deleted among the 38 individuals who unlawfully transferred to our University’s Faculty of Business Administration English program in 1990, contrary to the decisions of the Higher Education Council and the conditions required by the legislation; to revoke the horizontal transfer decisions of the remaining 28 individuals who graduated, including the person mentioned in the 'Research Report' of the Higher Education Supervisory Board, and the diplomas and degrees obtained by these individuals based on these decisions on the grounds of 'nonexistence' and 'obvious error'; to continue the examinations and investigations regarding horizontal transfers made in all faculties of our University and subsequently to establish the necessary actions and transactions."

AN APPOINTMENT WAS MADE TO REPLACE THE RESIGNED DEAN

On the other hand, Prof. Dr. Levent Şahin, the Vice-Rector, was appointed as the acting dean in place of the resigned Dean of the Faculty of Business Administration, Prof. Dr. Kamil Ahmet Köse. It was determined that the appointment was made just before the holiday.

DIPLOMAS WILL BE DELETED FROM THE DATABASE

A new development has occurred regarding the revoked diplomas of İmamoğlu and the 28 individuals accompanying him. According to a report in Sabah, it has been learned that the new dean of the Faculty of Business Administration, Prof. Dr. Levent Şahin, will initiate the necessary procedures to delete the relevant diplomas from the university database in accordance with the decision of the Istanbul University Management Board immediately after the holiday.
