The incident occurred on April 24 in the Etyemez neighborhood of Alaçam. According to the information obtained, Cengiz Altınel went to the restaurant section of the gas station where his wife Pınar Altınel worked to talk to her, as they had been living separately for a while and she had filed for divorce. A dispute that broke out between the couple quickly escalated into a gun attack. After shooting his wife Pınar Altınel with the gun he brought, Cengiz Altınel committed suicide with the same weapon.

The moments of the murder and suicide were captured second by second on the security camera at the scene. In the footage, Cengiz Altınel is seen approaching his wife, who was clearing the table, and talking to her for a while. He then wrapped his left arm around her neck, pointed the gun to his head, threatened the surrounding citizens to leave the area, and then shot his wife in the head before aiming the same gun at himself and firing.

It was also learned that Pınar Altınel, who had been married for 9 years, had been living separately from her husband for a while, had filed for divorce, and that Cengiz Altınel did not want this divorce. It was stated that the couple did not have any children.
