AIR OPERATION CONDUCTED AGAINST GANG MEMBERS
The Nigerian Air Force conducted an air operation against armed gang members in the Danmusa area of Katsina yesterday. Following the operation, armed individuals who left the camp dispersed, allowing 62 hostages to escape from the detention camp where they were held.
Nigeria has recently been facing attacks from armed gangs as well as the terrorist organization Boko Haram and the West African branch of ISIS, ISWAP, in various regions of the country. Although the penalty for kidnapping in the country is death, incidents of abduction for ransom are frequently encountered. Armed individuals generally target villages, schools, and travelers in the northern part of the country to demand ransom.
