The Republican People's Party has appealed the decision to remove Özgür Çelik, the Istanbul Provincial Chairman, and his administration from office. Justice Minister Yılmaz Tunç also stated in his remarks on the matter, "There is a legal avenue to appeal the decision to cancel the congress."
The Republican People's Party has appealed against the "temporary suspension from duty" decision of the CHP Istanbul Provincial Chairman Özgür Çelik and the management by the Istanbul 45th Civil Court of First Instance.
MINISTER TUNÇ SAID "THE APPEAL PATH IS OPEN"
Justice Minister Yılmaz Tunç, in a statement regarding the issue, noted that the path for appealing the annulment decision is open, stating, "The interim decision given by the court is a precautionary measure aimed at preventing irreparable damages that may arise during the trial process and does not constitute a final judgment. The trial process is ongoing."
THE COURT'S DECISION CREATED A SHOCK EFFECT
In the case opened for the annulment of the Istanbul Provincial Congress held on October 8, 2023, the court decided to remove CHP Istanbul Provincial Chairman Özgür Çelik and the current management from their positions. The court stated that the allegations of irregularities in the elections were confirmed at the "approximately proven" level and suspended the provincial chairman, board of directors, and disciplinary committee members elected at the congress. With this decision, 196 delegates elected at the congress were also removed from their positions.
GÜRSEL TEKİN WAS APPOINTED AS TRUSTEE
The court decided to temporarily suspend the election activities of the district congresses and the provincial congress to be conducted only by the Istanbul Provincial Organization, according to the decision taken by the CHP Central Executive Board on July 14, 2025, regarding the 39th Ordinary Congress process. The court appointed former provincial chairpersons Gürsel Tekin, Zeki Şen, Hasan Babacan, Müjdat Gürbüz, and Erkan Narsap.
