Honorary Chief of the Hellenic National Defence General Staff Konstantinos Floros, in a live broadcast he appeared on, targeted Ankara over the Eastern Mediterranean and the Turkey-Libya memorandum, making an insolent threat with the words, "If necessary, we will respond on the ground in a way they will understand."
Honorary President of the Hellenic National Defense General Staff and K Group advisor, retired general Konstantinos Floros, made scandalous statements targeting Turkey and President Erdoğan during a live broadcast he participated in. Disturbed by Ankara's determined stance in the Eastern Mediterranean, Floros threatened to respond on the ground with rhetoric that crossed the lines.
"WE WILL RESPOND ON THE GROUND IN A WAY THEY UNDERSTAND"
Appearing as a guest on the main news bulletin of Greece-based ANT1 television, Floros made assessments regarding the Turkey-Libya memorandum and the electricity interconnection cable project between Greece and the Greek Cypriot Administration of Southern Cyprus (GKRY). Describing Turkey's moves to protect its own continental shelf as "instability," the retired general used the following insolent expressions:
"Turkey was engaging in such behavior. Have we forgotten what it did? No state anywhere in the world does such things. Therefore, Turkey will act as it sees fit. We, for our part, will do our job as we know how; of course, relying on international law, which is the fundamental instrument for such matters, and, if necessary, demonstrating our presence on the ground as we did in 2020. I repeat over and over, as I said here as well, we know how to do this on the ground, and we know the method. Let no one doubt that, if necessary, we will respond on the ground in a way they understand. And we will do so successfully."
EMPHASIS ON THE FRENCH SHIP AND NAVTEX
Acknowledging that Turkey sent a very clear message with the NAVTEX it announced, Floros claimed that the Athens administration would issue a new NAVTEX through the Heraklion naval station at the beginning of November. Drawing attention to the French research vessel in the region, the Greek general claimed, "If Turkey takes any action, we have the capacity to support the French ship on the ground."
DISTURBED BY TURKEY'S EGYPT DIPLOMACY
Also touching on Turkey's diplomatic contacts with Egypt in the Eastern Mediterranean equation, Konstantinos Floros claimed that Turkey was shooting itself in the foot and concluded his statement with the words: "We will see these things, we must be vigilant; we must be ready to take to the field with all the tools and methods that the opponent brings to the field, defending national interests."
