Famous Cypriot businessman Asil Nadir passed away at the age of 83 at Kolan British Hospital, where he had been receiving treatment since February 4. Asil Nadir, who came to prominence in the 1990s with his investments in England and Turkey and was once among the world's richest businessmen, had his will-like message published by his wife, Nur Nadir.
In his final message to the Turkish Cypriot people, Asil Nadir stated:
"My dear Cypriot brothers, I wanted to support and uplift you in your honorable struggle for life as long as I had life and strength. I sacrificed my life, my efforts, and all my resources for the honorable struggle and cause of all Cypriots. Those who betrayed us have always been among us, but despite everything, I never gave up.
"DO NOT LET THEM BE AT MY FINAL JOURNEY"
Please do not give up either. This homeland is ours, these lands are ours, and these institutions are ours; take care of each other and the projects I left to you.
As a Cypriot who was born and died in these lands, my will to you is, despite everything, to take care of these lands. Those who were around me throughout my life but did not support my honorable struggle for life and could not pass the test of humanity should not be present at my final journey.
Death is a right. At least let them take a break from this theater. I entrusted my devoted wife Nur Nadir and my two children, Lisa Nur Nadir and Mertselim Asil Nadir, to your beautiful hearts. I left my will regarding the upcoming presidential election to my wife, Nur Nadir. These lands are ours. Take care of them in unity. To meet a more beautiful world with all beautiful hearts. Take care of each other."
