On December 8, 2024, it was revealed that Ahmed Şara, who took over the country's administration by overthrowing the Assad regime in Syria, has been the target of assassination attempts three times in the last 7 months. According to a special report by the Israeli-based Yedioth Ahronoth newspaper, at least one of the attacks was thwarted by the intervention of Turkish security forces.
"TURKS SAVED SHARA'S LIFE"
Israeli media reported that the first assassination attempt on Şara occurred at the exit of the Kasr al-Shaab Palace in the capital, Damascus. The assailant was neutralized by the immediate intervention of Turkish security forces due to suspicious movements. The report highlighted the statement, "Turks saved Şara's life."
ROUTE CHANGED, ATTACK PREVENTED
The second assassination attempt took place in the Daraa province near the Jordanian border. During a visit to the region, two suspects were identified by Syrian and Turkish security forces along Şara's convoy route. The attack was prevented by changing the route. The incident was closed without being announced to the public.
WEAPON AMBUSH WAS FOILED BEFORE ACTION
The third and most serious assassination plan was an armed ambush set up on a fixed route in Damascus. The attack preparation, which was noticed at the last moment by Turkish and local intelligence, was foiled before it could be executed. Shortly after this incident, Şara's sudden departure from Damascus drew attention.
Israeli and Arab media indicate that Şara instructed not to provide information to the public regarding all these attempts.
