In the Çermik district of Diyarbakır, four individuals who reportedly entered an unused water well to clean it died from carbon monoxide poisoning caused by the operation of a generator.
Four people were trapped in a well they entered to clean in the Çermik district of Diyarbakır. The four individuals, who were poisoned by carbon monoxide gas due to the generator running, lost their lives.
TRAPPED IN THE WELL
The incident occurred in the rural area of Petekkaya Neighborhood, connected to the Çermik district, in the evening hours. Mehmet Karabağ (33), Mehmet Emin Karabağ (35), Hanifi Yeşilyaprak (38), and Kemal Karabağ (17) entered a well that is estimated to be about 15 meters deep and has not been used for a long time to clean it. After a while, contact was lost with the four individuals. Upon the notification of their worried relatives, search and rescue teams from Çermik Municipality, health services, AFAD, fire department, and gendarmerie were dispatched to the area.
4 PEOPLE DIED FROM POISONING
The teams descended into the well with the help of a ladder and rope. Upon inspection, it was determined that Mehmet Karabağ, Mehmet Emin Karabağ, Hanifi Yeşilyaprak, and Kemal Karabağ had died from poisoning due to carbon monoxide gas produced by the running generator. Relatives who received the news were overwhelmed with tears. Efforts are ongoing to remove the bodies from the location.
