Following the indictment prepared by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office regarding the dismissal of Bar Association President İbrahim Kaboğlu and the members of the Board of Directors, the Istanbul Bar Association convened an Extraordinary General Assembly. During the General Assembly, some lawyers reacted strongly to the speeches made by representatives of foreign countries from the podium, which targeted Turkey.
The Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office had prepared an indictment following the dismissal of the Istanbul Bar Association President and Board members. A decision for an Extraordinary General Assembly was made after a lawsuit was filed in the Civil Court for the election of a new bar president and members.
Today, at the Haliç Congress Center, the non-elective Extraordinary General Assembly was attended by Erinç Sağkan, the President of the Turkish Bar Association (TBB), bar presidents and lawyers from many parts of Turkey, as well as representatives of political parties and numerous legal representatives from various countries around the world.
FOREIGN COUNTRY REPRESENTATIVES TARGETED TURKEY, REACTION WAS SWIFT
On the other hand, during the General Assembly, some lawyers reacted strongly to the speeches targeting Turkey made by foreign country representatives from the podium. A lawyer who stood up and addressed the podium said, "Are the representatives of imperialism going to teach us about human rights? Is this what human rights are?"
"IF THERE IS NO TURKEY, THERE IS NO BAR, YOU MUST BE NATIONAL FIRST"
Later, a lawyer who stepped outside the hall where the General Assembly was held stated, "Do you know where I last saw these people? I saw them when Pastor Brunson was on trial. The owners of Pastor Brunson took that delegation to the courtroom door. That delegation was not present during the Ergenekon trials. Why? Because national figures were being tried there. The current Bar President, whom you refer to as Kaboğlu, was among those who signed for the trials to be deepened. They say, where were they when Ümit Kocasakal was on trial? The person you call the Bar President today was among those who signed for the trial regarding Ümit Kocasakal to be deepened while it was ongoing. Right across, he is unnational. If there is no Turkey, there is no bar. You must be national first." he stated.
