In the İmranlı district, where intermittent snowfall has been accompanied by the effects of Siberian cold, the lowest temperature in Turkey was recorded. In the district, where thermometers showed temperatures below minus 30 degrees Celsius, life came to a standstill.
The cold weather that showed its effects in Sivas in February brought life to a standstill. The air temperature in the city center dropped to 20 degrees below zero, while even lower values were reached in the districts.
LIFE HAS STOPPED IN TURKEY'S COLDEST DISTRICT
According to the data from the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change's General Directorate of Meteorology, today the coldest settlement in Turkey was the district of İmranlı. In the district where the air temperature was measured at 30.6 degrees below zero, life came to a standstill.
THE KIZILIRMAK RIVER HAS FROZEN
The surface of the Kızılırmak River, which originates from the district of İmranlı and is the longest river in Turkey, has also frozen. The freezing cold that was effective during the night gave way to snow with the first light of day.

Fuat Ünal, a resident of the district, said, "Last night we became the coldest place in Turkey with 30 degrees below zero. You can see that even the Kızılırmak has frozen. We continue to break records in Turkey every year."
