Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya reported that between January 1 and February 20, traffic teams carried out 848,766 operations related to speed violations. He provided information on the distribution of fines issued in traffic according to the types of violations.
Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya shared data regarding traffic inspections on his social media account. He stated that between January 1 and February 20, traffic teams conducted 848,766 operations related to speed violations, and also noted that 777,256 operations were carried out through Electronic Monitoring Systems.
Yerlikaya reminded that in Turkey, an average of 10 citizens lose their lives daily in speed-related accidents in 2023, and shared information that studies related to legal regulations are nearing completion, alongside inspections and operations aimed at preventing loss of life due to speed violations. Emphasizing the dangers of exceeding speed limits while driving, Yerlikaya stated, "Let’s not forget, speed does not bring gain, it steals from our lives. Our priority should not be speed, but safety."
DATA FROM FEBRUARY 13-20
Yerlikaya expressed that between February 13-20, the police and gendarmerie traffic teams inspected 3,017,445 vehicles, and reported that 50 drivers were penalized for using devices (flashing lights) that are not permitted by law on vehicles. He provided information that, along with other operations, 623,236 operations were conducted on vehicles/drivers, including 204,373 for speed violations, 22,652 for not having periodic inspections, 39,062 for not wearing seat belts, 12,449 for driving without a license, and 6,434 for not having mandatory liability insurance.
"LIFE CANNOT BE COMPETED WITH"
Minister Yerlikaya also shared a video to draw attention to the painful losses caused by excessive speed in traffic accidents. The video emphasized the importance of adhering to speed limits and called on citizens to be sensitive about this issue. The video included responses from citizens to the question, "How many lives do you think we lose in traffic accidents caused by excessive speed in just one day in our country?"
