The mandatory equipment list for vehicles has been expanded. In addition to fire extinguishers and reflectors, tools such as pliers, screwdrivers, light bulbs, tow ropes, and jacks have become mandatory. Drivers found with missing equipment may face a fine of 1,246 lira.

As thousands of drivers get behind the wheel every day, it has been revealed that many vehicles are missing vital equipment. Experts have issued important warnings to drivers, especially with the summer months approaching.

Under the new regulations, the list of mandatory equipment required in vehicles has been expanded, and it has been stated that missing materials will be considered a serious defect during vehicle inspection and may also result in a fine.

A FIRE EXTINGUISHER ALONE WILL NO LONGER SUFFICE

With the amendment to the Highway Traffic Law, new items have been added to the list of mandatory equipment required in vehicles.

In addition to a fire extinguisher, first aid kit, and reflective triangle:

  • Pliers
  • Screwdriver
  • Vehicle bulbs are now also among the mandatory equipment.

Additionally:

  • Spare tire or tire inflation devices
  • Towing rope
  • Lug wrench
  • Equipment such as a jack must also be kept in the vehicle.

After the new regulation, some drivers stated that their vehicles lack the necessary equipment.

WARNING FROM EXPERTS FOR THE SUMMER MONTHS

Experts emphasize that it is not enough for drivers to only check the fuel before setting off; safety equipment must also be checked. Noting that vehicle fires may increase especially in hot weather, experts state that screwdrivers and similar tools are critically important in such situations.

In emergency situations that may occur in vehicles:

  • Disconnecting battery terminals
  • Breaking windows
  • Operations such as bulb replacement require screwdrivers and hand tools.

1,246 LIRA FINE FOR MISSING EQUIPMENT

If mandatory equipment is missing in vehicles, drivers may face fines. It has been stated that if missing equipment is detected during inspections, drivers may be subject to an administrative fine of 1,246 lira. Additionally, missing equipment may be considered a "serious defect" during vehicle inspection.
