Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality announced that cold weather and snowfall are expected in the city this weekend. Citizens were advised to take precautions due to the drop in temperatures and the strengthening of the wind.
The Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) Disaster Affairs Department AKOM has issued a warning for cold and rainy weather in Istanbul. It was stated that the air temperatures, which have been above seasonal norms, will start to drop as of today, and after midnight on the night connecting Saturday to Sunday, intermittent snowfall and sleet are expected.

According to meteorological assessments, it is expected that the wind will blow strongly (20–50 km/h) from the northern directions from Saturday until Sunday.

While intermittent and local rains are expected in the region on Saturday, it has been reported that the rains will be seen as mixed rain starting from Sunday morning (08:00), and as snow in higher elevations.
It is predicted that after the evening hours on Sunday (16:00), with temperatures dropping to 2°C and below, the rains may turn into local heavy snow showers intermittently. It is expected that the rains will lose their effect by Monday evening.
"CALL FOR PRECAUTIONS AGAINST POSSIBLE DISRUPTIONS"
Due to the expected cold weather and snowfall on Sunday night and Monday morning, citizens and relevant units were requested to be cautious against possible disruptions in land, air, and sea transportation, as well as adverse conditions such as icing and freezing. It was emphasized that it is important to assign on-duty personnel outside of working hours and to continue necessary intervention efforts in line with the warnings to be made.
THE COUNTRY IS ON ALERT
On the other hand, according to a statement from the General Directorate of Meteorology (MGK), it is expected that the cold air coming from the Black Sea will affect the country starting tomorrow.
It is predicted that the cold air will continue to affect the western parts of the country until Wednesday, and the central and eastern parts until Thursday.
STRONG ICING AND FREEZING EXPECTED
During this period, strong icing and freezing events are expected in the high areas of Thrace, the eastern Marmara, the Inner Aegean, Central Anatolia, the inner parts of the Mediterranean, the inner parts of the Black Sea, Eastern Anatolia, and Southeastern Anatolia.
Citizens and relevant institutions need to be cautious against possible adverse conditions, especially disruptions in transportation.

According to a statement from the General Directorate of Meteorology, heavy snowfall is expected in Yozgat and Sivas starting from the evening hours, and in Aksaray, Nevşehir, and Kayseri starting from tomorrow morning. THE MINISTRY OF INTERIOR HAS ALSO WARNED
Additionally, in a statement shared on the social media account of the Ministry of Interior, a "yellow" coded meteorological warning was issued for Yozgat, Sivas, Aksaray, Nevşehir, Kayseri, Rize, Artvin, Trabzon, Giresun, Gümüşhane, Sinop, Kastamonu, and Bartın.
