The Syrian Civil Aviation Authority announced that the airspace, which has been closed for 3 days due to security tensions in the region, will be partially reopened starting Wednesday.
The Syrian Civil Aviation and Air Transport Authority announced to the official news agency SANA that the northern air corridors towards Turkey will be reopened and that Aleppo International Airport will become operational as of March 4, 2026, at 00:00.
DAMASCUS INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT WILL REMAIN CLOSED
The statement noted that other air corridors and Damascus International Airport will remain closed until a second announcement.
FLIGHT SAFETY CONSIDERED
The statement indicated that the decision was made to balance the requirements of flight safety and civil aviation security on one hand, and to provide services to citizens, ensure travel, supply, and maintain essential activities through minimum air connectivity on the other hand.
It was stated that the decision was made based on the continuous evaluation of the operational and field situation, and it was emphasized that "decisions regarding airspace management are made solely in accordance with flight safety and civil aviation security criteria and in compliance with international aviation standards."
