In the incident that took place in Kocaeli on January 29, 2025, Aysel Duran, who shot and killed her husband Emrah Duran with a gun, is being tried for "intentional murder of a spouse." Speaking at the second hearing of the case, Duran said, "I did not want to kill him. In the Izmit district of Kocaeli, Aysel Duran (43), who shot and killed her husband Emrah Duran (42) due to a dispute arising from 'jealousy', said during the trial she is being prosecuted, "I did everything for this marriage for 16 years. I would do it again. I was not afraid of him killing me. I was afraid of the way he would kill me. I did not want to kill him. I just loved my children very much. I lost my father when I was 4 years old. I grew up in a house without a father. I did not want my children to be without a father."
The incident occurred on January 29, 2025, in a house in the Yahya Kaptan neighborhood of Izmit. A dispute arose between Emrah Duran and his wife Aysel Duran due to 'jealousy' at an entertainment venue. In the late hours, the couple left the entertainment venue and went to their home on the 7th floor of an 8-story apartment building. The argument continued there as well. During the escalating argument, Aysel Duran shot her husband Emrah Duran, the father of her two children, with a gun in the house.
After the incident, Aysel Duran was detained by the police and was arrested by the court after her procedures at the police station. In her first statement, Aysel Duran said that her husband accused her of cheating and that she took the gun with the intention of committing suicide, and that she panicked and fired randomly after her husband's words like 'if you don't shoot, I will shoot.'

Aysel Duran was charged with 'intentional murder of a spouse'. The second hearing of the case opened at the Kocaeli 4th High Criminal Court was held today. The hearing was attended by the detained defendant Aysel Duran, her lawyer, and relatives of Emrah Duran. Defending herself in the hearing, Aysel Duran said, "We had a happy marriage for 16 years. Everything fell apart after Emrah started cheating on me. I did everything I could for this marriage. I would do it again if it happened again. He claimed that I cheated on him. I never betrayed him. He had become obsessed. He was constantly following me."

Aysel Duran, explaining that they had reached the divorce stage in their marriage but made efforts to continue, said, "When we wanted to get divorced, they sent us to a family counselor. In fact, we even made a bet between us. Whoever was referred to psychiatry would go and get treatment. When I wanted to get divorced, Emrah's father told me, 'Don't get divorced, it will ruin your life and your children's life.' I said at least I would try once. I thought we would have peace."
