Sixteen players from Salernitana experienced food poisoning after the first leg of the Serie B relegation play-out final against Sampdoria. The club requested the postponement of the return match scheduled for Friday.
In the first match of the Italy Serie B relegation play-out round, Salernitana, which lost 2-0 to Sampdoria, was shaken by bad news.
16 PLAYERS POISONED
After the match, a serious health crisis occurred during Salernitana's return journey. In a statement made by the club, it was reported that 16 players were hospitalized due to food poisoning after experiencing nausea, weakness, and vomiting that started on the plane.
POISONING FROM RICE
Following the poisoning incident, extensive disinfection procedures were initiated at Salernitana's club facilities. To mitigate any risk of contagion, the facilities were temporarily quarantined, and the team's training program was indefinitely suspended. It was stated that the poisoning was caused by rice consumed during lunch before the match.
REQUEST FOR MATCH POSTPONEMENT
On the other hand, Salernitana club officially applied to the Italian Football Federation for the postponement of the match, stating that they would not be physically or mentally ready before the return match.
