After the 5.30 TL reduction in diesel on August 27, drivers have now received news of a price hike. With the Special Consumption Tax (SCT), which was temporarily zeroed on August 13, being reinstated on September 1, an increase of 3.60 TL including VAT is expected to be reflected in the per-liter price of diesel.
The Special Consumption Tax (SCT) on diesel, which was temporarily reset on August 13, is expected to be reinstated as of September 1. With the tax increase projected to reflect as 3.60 TL per liter including VAT, diesel prices are set to climb again. The regulation is planned to continue gradually until the end of the year.
PUMP PRICES CHANGE AS OF SEPTEMBER 1
According to information from industry sources, the SCT rate on diesel is expected to be applied as 3 TL per liter in September. With the addition of the 20% VAT rate, the total price increase to be borne by consumers is expected to be 3.60 TL. On the gasoline side, no price change is anticipated due to SCT or market factors as of September 1.
SCT WILL INCREASE GRADUALLY UNTIL THE END OF THE YEAR
A reduction of 5.30 TL had been made in diesel prices on August 27 due to the decline in oil and international product prices. However, it is emphasized that the price increase expected on September 1 will stem directly from the tax regulation, not from market movements.
Accordingly, the SCT amount levied on diesel was reset for the remainder of August. According to the decision, in the following months, it will be determined by increasing it by 3 liras each month until the end of the year. Thus, as SCT, 3 liras will be collected in September, 6 liras in October, 9 liras in November, and 12 liras in December. The determined SCT amount will be applied as 13.9006 liras from January 1, 2027, and will be raised to the level before the sliding scale application.
ESTIMATED DIESEL PRICES BY CITY AFTER THE HIKE
Following the expected increase of 3.60 TL effective from September 1, it is estimated that the liter price of diesel in the three major cities will rise to approximately the following levels:
Istanbul: 81.06 TL
Ankara: 82.18 TL
Izmir: 82.46 TL
Currently, the liter price of gasoline continues to trade at approximately 74.35 TL in Istanbul, 75.30 TL in Ankara, and 75.59 TL in Izmir. It is reminded that fuel pump prices may show slight differences based on province, district, and distribution company.
