The leader of the Nationalist Movement Party (MHP), Devlet Bahçeli, reacted strongly to the Republican People's Party's (CHP) decision not to attend the opening of the Parliament. Bahçeli stated, "This attitude is a blatant attack on the will of the Turkish nation. This grave situation is not the exercise of a right, but the sabotage of existing national and democratic rights. Another egregious mistake will be added to those already made."
CHP announced that it has decided not to participate in the opening ceremony of the new legislative year to be held by President Erdoğan in the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM). While the decision resonated in the political arena, the CHP's justification was stated as "the transformation of the opening ceremony into political propaganda."
BAHÇELİ'S STRONG REACTION TO CHP'S DECISION
The CHP's protest decision has, so to speak, infuriated MHP Chairman Devlet Bahçeli. Bahçeli stated, "This attitude is a blatant attack on the will of the Turkish nation."
"THERE IS NO TIME TO BE WASTED WITH ORDERED TENSIONS"
MHP leader Bahçeli's full statement is as follows; "The 4th Legislative Year of the 28th Term of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey will be opened today with a special agenda session, thus the commission and general assembly works will begin. My hope and expectation is that legal regulations regarding the acute needs and demands of our nation will be made swiftly, and that the emerging problems will be addressed substantively and in a consensus-based manner. There is no time to be wasted with ordered tensions and shallow, sterile verbal duels."
"THE GAZI ASSEMBLY IS NOT A FIELD FOR POLITICAL RECKLESSNESS"
It should never be forgotten that the Turkish nation deserves a dignified and honorable understanding of politics, constructive and responsible legislative activities based on moral foundations. The Grand National Assembly of Turkey is the place where the will of the nation is manifested, and it is the sole, secure, and progressive authority of the National Struggle. With this characteristic and identity, the Grand National Assembly of Turkey has a precious and exceptional quality that establishes the state, manages armies, and gives meaning and spirit to democracy. The Gazi Assembly is not a random protest area or a field for politically reckless actions.
"CHP'S ATTITUDE IS A BLATANT ATTACK ON THE WILL OF THE NATION"
Commitment and adherence to the historical dignity it carries is a shared responsibility and obligation of everyone, especially the esteemed members of parliament serving under the roof of the Assembly. According to the statements made, it is understood that the Republican People's Party will not participate in today's opening session, nor in the reception where our esteemed President will be present.
The CHP's unethical political stance and preference is not only a disrespect to our esteemed President; it is also a blatant attack on the historical dignity and heritage of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey, as well as on the principles and fundamentals of democracy and the will of the Turkish nation. This grave situation is not an exercise of a right, but rather an undermining of existing national and democratic rights. Indeed, another egregious mistake will be added to the already made ones.
"IT IS A TOTALITARIAN IMMORALITY THAT DISREGARDS DEMOCRACY"
The Republican People's Party is documenting its opposition to the founding and establishment principles of the Republic of Turkey. The preemptive intolerance towards the speech that our esteemed President will deliver, along with the utterance of the claims of a coup sanctioned by Trump through the mouth of the CHP Chairman, is political negligence, and furthermore, it is a totalitarian immorality that disregards democracy.
The fact that the new legislative year will be overshadowed by baseless and meaningless legitimacy debates indicates that the crisis whirlpool in which the Republican People's Party is trapped is expanding. Our esteemed President, whose legitimacy is questioned, was elected with 52% of the votes and has taken office. The attempt to question and dilute this election is primarily an insult to our nation and an attempt to revolt against the state and democracy. The Republican People's Party must directly demonstrate the courage, resilience, and virtue to turn back from this scandalous mistake. A contrary insistence and obstinacy will only accelerate the dissolution of this party.
