In the Karayolu neighborhood of Gaziosmanpaşa district in Istanbul, an unidentified person began to chase a 12-year-old mentally disabled child, shouting for an unknown reason.
MENTALLY DISABLED CHILD BEATEN WITH KICKS AND PUNCHES The child, who was fleeing from the attacker, entered an alley and asked for help from bystanders. The suspect, who caught the child, continued to assault him with kicks and punches after knocking him to the ground.
BYSTANDERS JUST WATCHED The moments of the assault, where bystanders did not intervene, were captured by security cameras. The footage shows the mentally disabled child running into the street, asking for help from a person on the sidewalk, while the suspect is seen beating the child with kicks and punches for a long time without anyone intervening.
"HE HAD NO MOUTH, NO NOSE, NO FACE LEFT" Mother Ceylan K. said, "I was at home, it was around 1:30 PM. I went to the scene after the neighbors informed me. When I arrived, my son was unrecognizable. He had no mouth, no nose, no face left. His ear was completely bruised, and his face was shattered. There were tears and bruises on his shoulder. He had damage to his muscles and ligaments. My son was practically unconscious. There is a book café where my son was attacked. He loves that place and sometimes goes there to sit. He was there that day too. While running, he bumped into a woman. I don't know if that woman is the attacker's mother or girlfriend. When my son bumped into her, he immediately apologized, saying 'Sister, I'm sorry.' But the woman started to insult him, and then pushed my son. When my son said, 'I apologized, why are you still shouting?' a verbal argument ensued between them. Then the woman and the man next to her cursed at my son. When my son retaliated, the man started to chase him," she said.
"THIS IS NOT VIOLENCE, THIS IS SAVAGERY" Ceylan K. also reacted to the fact that those who witnessed the attack did not intervene, saying, "This incident is not violence, it is not assault, it is literally an attempt to kill. I have never even slapped this child in 12 years. I have protected him with my eyes. But someone comes out and beats him to death in the middle of the street. This is not violence, this is savagery."
