It has been reported that Belgium's defense spending has risen to 7.95 billion euros, reaching the highest level in the last 20 years.
According to a report by the English-language Brussels Times, Belgium's defense spending has increased for the first time in many years.
REACHED THE HIGHEST LEVEL IN 20 YEARS
Defense spending, which corresponds to 2.4% of total expenditures and has risen to 7.95 billion euros, has reached the highest level in the last 20 years.
On the other hand, defense spending for 2024 corresponds to 1.3% of Belgium's Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
Belgium's purchase of new equipment, such as F-35 fighter jets, has also contributed to the increase in defense spending.
Belgium's highest spending areas were social protection, health, economy, and education.
NATO members had committed to increasing defense spending to 5% of their GDP at the Hague Summit held in July.
