In the Serik district of Antalya, Mehmet Kadir E., who was heading to his car with a cake he bought to surprise his wife on her birthday, was attacked by an armed assailant whom he claims was a person he had a feud with. Seriously injured by a gunshot to the leg, Mehmet Kadir E. attributed his survival to the assailant's gun jamming, while his wife stated that the attacker also fired at her and that her husband's survival is their only consolation.
A man who was injured after being showered with bullets from a pistol while carrying a birthday cake from a bakery to his car in the Serik district of Antalya spoke out. Mehmet Kadir E., stating that the incident occurred in front of his wife, whom he wanted to surprise for her birthday, said, "There was a previous feud between me and the suspect. We couldn't feed the cake we wanted to my wife that day. It turned into a very bad birthday surprise." N.E., who chased the attacker after her husband was shot, said, "I ran towards that man to prevent the attack from continuing. I didn't think about courage or anything. I just tried to protect my husband. The only consolation for me is that my husband survived."
The incident occurred last Monday evening in the Serik district. Mehmet Kadir E., who had ordered a birthday cake from a bakery the day before to surprise his wife, began walking towards his parked car with the cake in hand. At that moment, a person approaching from behind shot him in the leg. Mehmet Kadir E. collapsed in a pool of blood, and the birthday cake in his hand was scattered on the road. According to eyewitnesses, the attacker fled the scene and disappeared. Upon notification from nearby citizens, medical and police teams were dispatched to the area. After initial intervention, the seriously injured Mehmet Kadir E. was taken by ambulance to Serik State Hospital. Police teams launched an operation to capture the fleeing attacker.
FEUD ALLEGATION
Mehmet Kadir E., who is still undergoing treatment at the hospital, recounted his experiences together with his wife to İhlas News Agency (İHA). Claiming there was a previous feud between him and the suspect, Mehmet Kadir E. said, "I work in vineyard and garden jobs. The person who shot me with a gun had previously worked for me. On April 23, this person broke the mirror of my car. His brother attacked my son, and my son had to stab him. In due time, the public will decide what is right and wrong. This person slashed my car tire. Along with two others, they attacked me at my workplace. About 25 days ago, he and his father threatened me at the police station. I obtained a preventive measure order against these individuals."
"THE GUN JAMMED THE SECOND TIME HE CAME"
Stating that he owes his survival to the gun jamming, Mehmet Kadir E. said, "The armed attack against me happened in front of my wife and child. I had bought a cream cake and a gift for my family. The person comes and shoots me. In a place like Çınaraltı, in the center of Serik, he carries out an armed attack and escapes, still not caught. I watched the footage later. At the moment of the incident, I heard the gunshot. I was shot in the leg at the same moment. I tried to reach my gun but fell. He directly fired at me, with the intent to kill. The second time he came, he aimed at my head to shoot, but the trigger didn't pull. The gun jammed. The only reason I am alive right now is that the gun jammed. He fled later because my wife arrived. It is very painful that the country is in this state."
"WE ENDED UP MAKING A VERY BAD BIRTHDAY SURPRISE"
Stating that he prepared this surprise just to make his wife happy, even though she has an allergy to cake, Mehmet Kadir E. said he was targeted by bullets in front of his family waiting for him in the car. Expressing that they faced a very painful surprise after the incident, Mehmet Kadir E. said, "Actually, my wife is allergic to cake, but I had ordered the cake the day before anyway. We were going to go home and make a nice meal. We had planned it with our friends that day, but it wasn't meant to be. It's very painful. We couldn't feed the cake we wanted to my wife that day. We ended up making a very bad birthday surprise."
"MY HUSBAND SURVIVING IS MY ONLY CONSOLATION"
N.E., the wife of Mehmet Kadir E., who said the attacker also fired at her but missed because he was fleeing, said the following: "My husband had gone to buy a cake to surprise me. I was sitting in the car at that time. I heard a gunshot. As soon as I heard the sound, I jumped out of the car. I ran to where my husband was. I saw my husband on the ground covered in blood. Afterwards, I saw the person who shot him. We already had a feud with him before. He had threatened us. I went to the prosecutor's office many times and filed complaints about this issue. There are also videos of him threatening us. Afterwards, I ran towards him so the attack wouldn't continue. As he was fleeing, he fired two shots at me too. He didn't hit me because he was running away. Then I had to tend to my husband. I waited by my husband until the ambulance came. Thankfully, the nearby citizens helped me. For me, my husband surviving is my only consolation. At first, I couldn't even hear my husband's voice. I thought my husband was dead. I just ran towards that man so the attack wouldn't continue. I didn't think about courage or anything. I just tried to protect my husband."
